Everything about High Throston totally explained

High Throston is a suburb of Hartlepool within the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, in England. It is situated on the north-western edge of Hartlepool. The hamlet of High Throston (from the anglo saxon thosson meaning hill) is situated on a promontory overlooking the Tees bay. It is famed for its local shellfish and there are many good restaurants situated in the area. At the heart of the village is the golf club which is reputedly one of the oldest courses in the country. Remains of a Viking longboat were discovered under one of the greenside bunkers during restoration work and a small museum has been built next to the golf club house.Visitors to the area should try to attend the annual flower show which attracts a huge number of visitors in late may.
The village is a renowned haunt of the Hartlepool glitterati who are often to be seen in the village centre wine bars and cafes.
The local football team, High Throston Rangers, were one of the founding members of the Northern Football Alliance and have played briefly in the (old) fourth division. Dixie Dean, the future Everton and England striker began his career at High Throston.
